Forester

Since 2015, Marcus Rutherford has worked as a Forester at A. Wilbert’s Sons, overseeing the day-to-day operations of timber management on AWS properties, conducting timber inventories, monitoring and sampling mitigation bank vegetation, creating and enhancing wildlife habitats, and establishing and maintaining property boundaries.

Marcus loves that his wide array of responsibilities and AWS properties makes every day different, always presenting him with new challenges. “I enjoy getting to call the beautiful, majestic swamps of Louisiana my office."

Marcus was born and raised in the rural farmlands of central Illinois, but he’s always loved the Southern way of living. After earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Marcus enrolled in graduate school at LSU, earning a Master of Science degree in Renewable Natural Resources . Marcus and his wife, Kelsey, fell in love with the unique people and culture of South Louisiana and decided to make it their home after Marcus accepted a position with AWS. They recently started their family with two lovely daughters, Quinn and Lyla.

In the community, Marcus is the President of the Southeast Louisiana Chapter of the Society of American Foresters, the Vice President of the Red Stick Forestry Association, and is a member of the Louisiana Forestry Association and the Southern Hardwood Forest Research Group. In his spare time, Marcus enjoys hunting, fishing, traveling, and homebrewing.
